I start today: July 16, 2025. An extremely random date, but I hope that this day will be a memorable one written in the annals of my life. For today, I start the experiment that has been ping ponging in my head. I start this writing experiment to work on improving my writing skills. I will also share the things that I am learning or have learned, and am thinking about. I think that this will be a helpful exercise for me to practice transferring my understanding of things to others while also allowing me to improve my abilities.

Why a blog? Why now?

I have long wanted to increase my capacity to write and to clearly convey ideas and information. A blog is a low stakes venture into the world of writing. Writing a blog reminds me of the writing exercises that I did in school growing up. Sometimes I was given a prompt for a topic or theme that I should write about. Other times the topic or purpose of the exercise was left up to me. I think this blog will be guided at times by profound things that I have come across recently. Other times it will be a meandering river of ideas leap-frogging from thought to the next.

And to answer the latter question… the old adage of planting trees comes to mind. It is that the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.

I also have been thinking about the importance of developing habits and rituals. We make time for things that we want. As I’ve mentioned, I have wanted to start writing with more frequency for awhile but evidently I haven’t wanted to make time for it. By starting this blog, I am signaling to myself that I do want to improve my writing skills and I will take the time required to make it happen. Additionally, I think the blog will motivate me to fulfill my commitment to myself to write every day since these posts are public.

An idea: What if I concluded every blog post with an invitation?

Invitation: Identify something that you have been wanting to add to your life but have been putting off. Start that thing today. Then do that thing again tomorrow. I’ve often heard it say that a habit starts the second time you do something. Start your habit today.

Finally, a request: As I have stated as one of the purposes of me writing this blog is to increase my writing aptitude. So my request for you as a reader is to comment in response to the following questions when you are able to:

  • Where are there errors (grammar, vocabulary, etc.) in my writing for this blog post?
  • Were there any places in reading the blog that didn’t clearly flow? Where were you caught up?
  • Any other suggestions for improving my writing? Tips, tricks, etc.?
  • What is something that you are reading, watching, or listening to that you think I would find interesting?

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this blog post.

Until the next blog post (tomorrow), adieu.

Hi! First off, I love the quote “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The best time to plant a tree is today”. Is the first sentence “is” or “was”. That was the only grammar thing I kind of slightly noticed. As far as suggestions, maybe add in a picture or another visual element. I am currently not reading anything, just doing a lot of journaling/writing. If you feel so inclined, feel free to check my page out. All things health and wellbeing 🙂 Best of luck on the blog going forward!
